• Foundation's Mission

The Adana branch has been founded by Güzin Özgiray on 25th of November,1987. We initiated our special education program in a classroom at the Süreyya Nihat Oral primary school in 1983. As we became one of this Foundation’s branch, we embraced the value of education even more. Our initial special educational services in Adana were pursued in a building donated by the Karabucak family and other rental buildings. Later on, with the resources of our branch, we started building our own school building on a 4500 m2 area on the Municipal Houses district. Ms.Güzin Özgiray, with her imperial generosity,undertook the responsibility for most of the building expanses.

With other generous peoples’ contributions, our building was completed and opened to service in 2002. We named our center as “Bahri Özgiray Rehabilitation Center” after the late beloved son of Güzin Özgiray.

We commemorate Ms. Güseren Kaya who contributed greatly and worked as the devoted director of our Adana Branch starting from the establishment of the branch until she passed away. Today with the presidency of Ms. Zeynep Tüzün and the great efforts of Mr.Resul Duran, our Adana Branch continues to provide quality educational and rehabilitational services.

working full-time at our facilities. Moreover, we employ additional administrative and service personel as needed.

• For education needs of individiuals diagnosed with M.R., CP, Down Syndome and etc. :

Mental development, emotional development, speech development, psychologic development, fine and gross motor skills improvement, self care apability development, physiotherapy, computer supported education programs are adjusted to individuals progress levels.

• For individuals grouped based on progress levels:

Self care, academic abilities, games, arts, music, acting are all given based on yearly programs.

Family counseling, academic support, social-emotional support, speech improvement and motor ability development kind of support are all continuously offered.

We offer educational programs to small group of families that share similar problems, we also visit their homes. When urgent solutions are required about the child’s problems, we arrange private meetings with parents.

• Collaborating with the Seyhan Municipality Ocupatioanl Center, we inititated “Ebru” work. We continously meet on Wednesdays and our efforts are exhibited at kermeses.
• We started visiting friends and their families as groups of hildren. We find that these visits make our children very happy and moreover they gain many different social experiences.
• Our children use different units (white room, activity centers etc)of the Adana Yedi Pınar Handicapped Park.
• We take our children to appropriate plays and movies in the city.
• Memorial or special days are celebrated.
• Natural and historical sites, museum are visited.
• We produce approximately 1000 galoshes in our workshop.
• We make flowers, necklaces, paint wood and fabric, weave kilims and use recycled materials in our handcrafts workshop.
• We appreciate the value of the positive impact of school-family-child interactions in the special education of chilren so therefore we collaborate with parents. Volunteer parents visit our school on particular days and help us weave kilims.

At our center, mentally handicapped children and teenagers attend the following activities under the supervision of a physical education instructor and they win medals in competitions.

• Swimming (with the help of an aid agency)
• Basketball
• Table tennis
• Athletism
• Bowling

In year 2005, we served a total of 91 (55 SSK, 21 Emekli Sandıği and 15 unpaid) mentally handicapped children and teenagers. 30 students with green cards were provided with our special education with the support of Adana Governship. Food and clothing provided by many foundations, institutions and individuals were distributed to low income families.

The issue of mentally handicapped individuals can only be investigated and solutions can be offered when experts and educators come together with the support of sensible and responsible individuals or foundations.

Our aim is to provide our children with a more modern, well equipped education and rehabilitation environment.
