We believe that the mentally handicapped children becoming self-sufficient and socially adapted as a result of education and rehabilitation is a service to their families and to the society as a whole. The supporting and education of the family itself is an integral part of this process.

The educators and the individual’s parents share many responsibilities in the development of the mentally handicapped individual. We conduct Family Education programs in all education and rehabilitation centers of our foundation. In these programs, the aims are to enable the parents to

• be able to teach necessary skills to their children,
• better cope with problematic behaviors,
• better control and orient their children,
• positively develop their relationship with their children.

We employ various techniques in the education and orientation of the families,

• Personal (one-to-one) sessions with families,
• Communication journals/log-books (between the parent and the educator),
• Parental meetings with small groups ( 10 persons - 10 weeks - 2 hours/session),
• Parental meetings with large groups,
• Home visits/sessions.

Our family counselling services consist of sessions intended primarily for families of mentally handicapped children not part of our education and rehabilitation programs. The sessions give information on techniques and practices on handicapped education, skill teaching and behavior rehabilitation as well as on existing laws, bylaws, handicapped education schools and institutions.

The parents of the handicapped young/young adult or adult children which are part of our education and rehabilitation programs are given the opportunity to let their children stay at our boarding facilities for a night, a weekend or for a short period of time. This may be due to a special need such as a much needed vacation, a wedding, sickness, etc. With this service, the parents feel much more relaxed and in peace and the children experience a different and fun social environment for the same period of time.
